Cheating Spoils Future

Causes for cheating in exams:  
  1. 1. Because of several reasons students cannot make required efforts to appear and succeed in the exams. This might be due to faulty educational methods like by-hearting, lack of basic language skills, poor vocabulary, not preparing or following mind maps, flow-charts, practicing diagrams, derivations, equations or problem-solving.
  2. Owing to irregularity in attending classes due to peer group pressure or interest in extra-curricular habits like cinema going, gambling or attending social network sites. Mostly the lazy, unprepared and incapable students resort to cheating.
  3. There might be a huge pressure on students to secure for high grades or marks in the exams to fulfill the desires of their parents or educational institutions.
  4. Owing to heavy burden on students with respect to curriculum or number of school hours there is no enough time available for studying. Some over-enthusiastic or mindless institutions are conducting many exams on a single day. The students cannot prepare that much for and so resort to cheating.
  5. One more important cause for cheating may be irregular, inefficient, immoral, lethargic teaching staff, can’t able to motivate or acknowledge the students to the required levels.
  6. Students want to avoid back-logging and think better to complete the test on time in the hopes of getting promoted to higher classes.
  7. Students try to complete the course as soon as possible.
  8. Some students think that cheating leads to secure good marks and that in turn increase the chances of getting a job with a good pay.
  9. Some students might have been habituated to the habit of cheating due to laxity in invigilators or encouragement from educational institutes or parents themselves.

Bad Effects of Cheating:
  1. Most of the cheaters cannot use the subject in everyday life. So they will lose the basic theme of education. Neither they can mould their attitudes nor they can improve their life styles.
  2. Cheaters undermine the quality of education, devalue reputation and the degrees. They may become inefficient professionals or officers at the end.
  3. There will be a long term affect on one’s own career development.
  4. Cheaters cannot get a good job because they have never attempted to learn the course. They are poor both at language and knowledge so poor opportunities in future.
  5. Cheaters do not have ability to do their own works, or jobs. So they have to face unemployment.
  6. Cheating creates irresponsible citizens. They could create a lot of problems for themselves, to the society, and even to their employers.
  7. Cheaters cannot be creative and always try to imitate others or sometimes falsely claim others work as their own. There is hardly any chance for innovation.
  8. Cheating at school level is the foundation step for all kinds of cheating in society like back-biting, blaming, blackmailing, bribery, corruption, scams, plagiarism, etc. Ultimately it spoils the good qualities among citizens like integrity, honesty, loyalty, etc, towards their own parents, fellow-beings and the nation itself.
  9. Cheating creates worthless persons who may turn into eve-teasers, rapists, rowdy-sheeters, goondas, bad politicians, bad officers, bad engineers, bad doctors, drug-habits, smugglers, bookies, terrorists, etc in the society.
So all students should feel responsible to effectively use their resources to improve language, knowledge and many other skills to become a good professional and true citizen rather than an inefficient professional or bad element of the society

Textbook Reading - The Primary Root of Knowledge

Textbook reading is as important as reading study materials and notes that make you a complete, efficient and effective, innovative and problem-solving student. Many of the students take reading for granted, exclusively dependent on materials. That’s harmful. Reading for pleasure at least a few minutes a day will improve the subject knowledge and ability to answer all kinds of questions during entrance exams!

Variety is the Spice of Life: Students do not fix themselves in reading any one kind of book. Reading different kinds of materials, text-books, of different publishers, science magazines, etc enables to understand and think the subject in different angles.

SQ3R Method of reading (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review): SQ3R Method is a fairly quick process. This enables students to read several times faster than the average because they are reading to answer questions and guess incoming next. Reading with a purpose enhances interest, concentration, comprehension, and retention of the subject content in mind.
Survey the Book: Read the cover; go through the Table of Contents, Introduction, and back cover to become familiar with the theme of the material. Survey the chapter to read. Read the title, topic headings, know the number of pages the chapter.
Reading the book: 
  1. Read one topic at a time to understand the material without breaks.  
  2. Read vigorously, with the intention of getting answers and solving problems.  
  3. Associate or visualize the content to make reading meaningful and memorable. 
  4. Do not engage yourself in taking notes while reading, that interrupts the process of effective reading.  
  5. Highlight or underline only the main ideas and supporting details with no more than 10-15% of the page.  
  6. Write marginal notations to distinguish main ideas, examples and new terminology. 
  7. Group studies make better clarify and understand the subject. 
  8. Break the reading schedules every hour or a few to avoid boredom or tiresome. 
  9. Read to answer questions, to gather information and to critically analyze the content.  
  10. Don’t miss studying captions, pictures, illustrations, tables, graphs and charts. 
  11. Don’t delay looking up into a dictionary for any word that is new to you.  
Question the content: Don’t escape answering questions throughout and at the end of the chapter, aroused in your mind, or from worksheets, home tests, quizzes, etc.

Recite: Sometimes reading loudly several times helps make it clearer and impressive, especially quotes, definitions, formulae, new terminology, values, dates, etc. Students who recite forget only 20% of learned material within a period of two-weeks. Those who do not recite or discuss the material forget 80% of the information in the same time period.

Review: Periodically stop reading and try to recollect the same. Review the material within 24, 48 hours or at least 72 hours time gap. Review often periodically. The more you review, the more information you retain and more capable to analyze and solve the problems.

Make Physics Easy

No doubt biology has more marks in PMT, yet physics decides your rank. This is a fact that most of the teachers and students make this subject very complicated because of unnecessary reasons. Thay are making physics second maths. The subject in fact is not so difficult.

Just like you have imprinted mathematical tables on your brain in your childhood, you make physics formulae too onto your brain. Don't let any formula miss out of your brain.

Always try to co-relate formula with its definition and units. They are inseparable. They are simply derived from one another. If you know formula that indicates that you know definition; you can derive units from it. Besides this generalize these with your daily life and natural laws and phenomena.

Always try to draw a line diagram depicting problems in your question paper with minute details visa vis quantities, dimensions, units, etc with consonance. Apply the most appropriate formula to solve the problem Cross check the answer to confide yourself.

Revisions Ultimate for Success in Entrance exams

No doubt students aspiring for competitive exams make a lot of extensive studies hopping over from academic books to books meant for entrance test, etc. How much the content you remember is more important than how much you have read? But don’t forget to tag them all on to your mind. This can be achieved by adopting following tricks.

  1. Use Marker Pen: Always mark new words, scientific names, scientific terms, constant values, formulae, etc. whenever or whatever the book you read.
  2. Maintain File: Clip cuttings from news-papers, magazines, etc of topics relevant to your syllabus.
  3. Graphics ever-last in memory: Reading and preparing diagrams with minute details, memory diagrams, skeleton notes, mnemonics, hints, key concepts, etc. should go simultaneously.  This is both paper and time consuming process. Avoid by-hearting or mugging-up as much as possible.
  4. Diagram speaks your subject: Minute diagrams make you need not to by-heart descriptive topics, experimental studies, etc.. This is much useful in biology.
  5. Formula tells many things: No need to mug-up definitions. Definitions are nothing but the explanation of formulae or formula are the symbolic representations of definitions. You can solve problems too.
  6. Periodic Table the backbone of Chemistry: Don’t by-heart chemistry, instead try to understand periodic table, atomic structure, chemical bonding before learning about chemicals, chemical formulae, valencies, oxidation states, balancing equations, preparation of chemicals, metallurgy, electronics, etc.
  7. Bookmarking: Book mark web pages containing relevant topics in respective folders on your desktop or mobile.
  8. Voice Recording: Whenever free record yourself reading important points to listen to the same while travelling or before exams.
  9. Intensive Revisions: Start your revision at least six weeks before your exams begins

Success through Mother Tongue

"This has become  fashionable these days to study in English Medium Schools. Good!  No doubt this is very much useful in the days of globalization. When? ................Even if the subject is not understood?

Whether reading topics in English is important or understanding the same? One should give a thought to this issue.

I have found in most of the schools all over the country that there is a craze for English. We least worry about whether what we teach is really being understood by our students. A very little importance is given for making students understand topics. Our education system is full of policies, programmes, schemes, methodologies, systems, statistics, progress reports, anti-child labour slogans, literacy slogans, many more..... Instead of making students to understand what they read, write and speak, simply we are wasting time in forcefully stuffing the content into their brains, which is not at all digestible.

Either give instructions in their respective mother tongue or give the meaning for new words, even for science and social subjects."

So all students are suggested to verify themselves whether they could understand any word or sentence or even a topic in their mother tongue? Lets start this way to read each and every bit to answer direct or indirect questions or conceptual or logical questions in your incoming examinations to secure a successful rank.

How Google be the best tool to enhance academic learning in the "Era of Social Networks"?

Albert Einstein quotes, "It is better to believe than to disbelieve; in so doing, you bring everything to the realm of possibility"It has been said and heard all over that children concentrating less on studies, degrading language skills (spellings and grammar especially), reducing focus on learning, retaining information, academic performance,  face to face physical interactions, etc., owing to long hours of exposure to electronic or social networks. Instead of wasting time on talking about bad effects of social network we can turn the same with good effects too. This could be a tool to improve language, knowledge, thinking and communication skills. No doubt social network has rooted down deep into our young hearts. It is not now so easy to uproot it at once. The only choice left with us is, “Go ahead!”

As Bill Gates says, “Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is the most important.” What we as teachers doing? Could we really win over in obstructing students from using electronic media? The answer is “no”, certainly not! We cannot change their attitudes. We only have to divert them from distracting things to academically useful ones. How best we can plan and implement? Let’s see……….

  1. A teacher is given the responsibility of setting up school children with Google account which lets them search, upload, store, organize, and share links among teachers, students and parents on a topic or project  through Goggle search or Google scholar.
  2. Search and collect topic wise images from Google images and store in respective Picasa albums.
  3. Prepare topic wise documents, spreadsheets or slide shows and upload the same on Google docs.
  4. Go around on field trips, shoot videos from a mobile as a project work. Topics may range from traffic education, environment, pollution, agriculture, poultry, dairy, sheep farming, disease symptoms, tools and implements, plant varieties, flowers, fruits, etc. Upload the same on YouTube or Google videos.
  5. Do blogging on topics related to school, social life, academic topics or issues.
  6. Integrate or communicate other students, teachers and parents through Google plus. Expose yourself to the world. 
This way we can improve academic networking, where syllabus-makers (authors, editors, publishers, etc), and syllabus-followers (teachers, students and parents) could also have a chance to come together and discuss how best the curriculum should be and how best to use the same for practical purposes. All academicians, educationists, teachers and Students should have their own electronic circles as the best one we see on Google plus! Students are better able to share information quickly and effectively.By spending a little time students are getting a golden chance to develop creative skills, familiarity with computers, and electronic media all at a time. The concept of school will no longer be restricted to a building or a place but to an expanded one worldwide. Students gets lot of relaxation from traditional method of mugging up and at the same time enjoy both learning and chatting.

Boost up memory power to succeed

As Jeremy Irons quotes “We all have our time machines. Some take us back, they're called memories. Some take us forward; they're called dreams.” So memorize the path of success to turn dreams into reality.

Boost up your memory to boost up your performance in your exams. Even though you work hard day in and day out you may not get expected results due to poor memory power. Don’t forget that you need to remember a huge amount of data to answer and to score well. While starting or during preparations you should follow the following guidelines to make your efforts more productive and more result oriented.
  1. Give regular physical exercise to increase oxygen supply to your brain that keeps your brain cells fluorish.
  2. Get sufficient sound sleep to consolidate memory activity in brain centers.
  3. Don’t be a bookworm forever. Hang out with your good friends and relatives, making and listening jokes, etc to relax your brain centers and to give a space for memory retention there. People with the most active social lives have the highest rate of memory retention.
  4. Give a chunk of your valuable time to exercise your brain by exposing it to analytical, creative, imagining and thinking tasks.
  5. Don’t put much stress upon your brain but instead cool it down and sharpen by doing meditation.
  6. Take a plenty of brain super foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains.
  7. Don’t forget to have these vitamins in your diet like beta-carotene (vitamin A), thiamine (viamin B), ascorbic acid (vitamin C), tocopherol (Vitamin E) and folic acid. And, if required give multivitamin supplement to your body on your doctor’s advice.
  8. Take glucose supplement especially during the days of examinations.
  9. Always have brain boosters that are anti-oxidants like anthocyanins, deep red and purple pigments.
  10. Take more omega-3 fatty acids (fish) and less saturated fatty acids (red meat, butter, cheese, ghee, ice cream)

Wholesome climate to boost your educational performance

“Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it.” Charles Dudley Warner says. But do something to improve this around you. It has a great influence on your mind, studies and consequently your results too.

You can tremendously enhance the speed of your effective learning process by setting favourable conditions around you viz., cool temperature, sufficient good ventilation, aestheics, least dust (particulate matter), free of bad odours, etc. These factors I think keep you intact and may not distract you from your learning process.

Extremities from normal may drastically alter your behavior, your mood and your concentration. Incorrect lighting and other factors may make you feel either hypoactive (lethargic) or hyperactive (emotional), bored and stressed. You should have to take intermittent breaks from your studies. You could not be consistent at you job. Adverse situations may make your plans, methodologies, memory power, etc unmanageable and can even influence your results!!!

Why success at first attempt is a dream for many?

Dear aspirants as I believe there is no much difficulty in achieving at first attempt in any competitive exam, if we are determined, well planned and making strategic inroads towards our first attempt. I would like to point out following things to achieve the success:
  1. 1. Medium of Instructions: Our language should be perfect enough to understand the subject content. We should have the habit of using dictionary whenever we feel some word or phrase we cannot understand. That one word will spoil our chance of understanding the whole sentence. That sentence might be a valuable bit in your exam.
  2. Schooling / Classroom Teaching: We should not neglect our classroom teaching. This has become a common practice these days that students are not concentrating on class room teaching; instead they are interested in other caching and materials.
  3. Academics: if you are not thorough enough with your academic studies then it indicates that you are half cooked only. Be concentrate first on academic syllabus before starting preparation for your competitive exams.
  4. Coaching Institutes: Join a right institute, avoid fake ones. Otherwise this will be mere waste of your time, money and career.
  5. Study material: select authentic study material. Study a few important books. Don’t confuse yourself with overloading your brain. Save both your time and money.
  6. Revisions: Instead of sitting at a place, by hearting, and trying to make you perfect is farce. Instead go on read the same topic and revise it periodically. Don’t mug-up. Try to understand the concept. The easiest way for quick revisions is go through underlined technical words, scientific names, scientists names, dates, constatnt values, formulas, phrases or definitions once in a while.
  7. Time management: Spend 50 per cent time in reading books and material, 25 per cent time in working out problems or drawings, 25 per cent time in reasoning, thinking, preparing your own tips for quick revisions, discussions, debates, solving previous problems, etc. This practice should be there since the beginning.
  8. Strong will power & determination: We should have this quality. This is the blood and soul of our achievement.
  9. Inspiration: Select any previous topper as a role model for your success.
  10. Have Aims & Dreams: Aim the target with a judicious dream of becoming a doctor, an engineer, an agricultural scientist, an ecologist, etc. And feel as if you are there in your seat!!!
If you have the attitude to make it success and work accordingly, you are sure to succeed. Good Luck....It is a matter of self confidence, right planning, smart work, heahthy mind and healthy body, an habit of peaceful living with less nervousness and tensions.

Achievement at first attempt will be a reality rather than a mere dream !!!

Can a slow learner succeed in entrance exams?

This is a common notion that those who secure good marks at +1 or + 2 level can only succeed in entrance tests. How far is this true with respect to good scorers and not with slow learners or poor scorers? We should first of all analyse what factors some one turn a slow learner. This is not always related to their IQ's. Some other causes might be there!

  1. Primary Education: There might not be good foundation at primary level of education due to different factors, viz., lack of basic, scientific, and dedicated education system.
  2. Physical & Mental Health: Some pupils health maight not be good enough so that they could imbibe enough the basic standrad of education at primary level.
  3. Medium of Instruction: As a symbol of status, increase in number of english medium schools, imitation or a sense of globalisation most of the parents joining their children in english medium schools. Owing to lack of genuine improvement in language ( because at that level other unnecessary subjects hampering their progress) most of the students are not able to grasp the actual theme of different topics or misunderstanding of topics. This is I think one of the major causes for lack of abilities among students.
  4. Mugging up process: This is a very important cause not letting students to understand the topic or not giving them any chance to present themselves a topic on the paper.
  5. Heavy syllabus: The over enthusiastic culture of stuffing many things in tender brains leading neither to understand nor to develop their own skills in the stream of education.
Note: I think there should less and reasonable amount of syllabus so that efforts would be made in strengthening the "medium of instruction" i.e., english rather than over-stuffing process, in english medium convents or schools. Concentrate on 3R's (Reading, Writing and Arithmetic skills)

By the way, analyse your self, where you missed the tempo. Don's worry. As you mature you can rebuild the missed features in your past education system. Spend a few months time to rebuild yourself with respect to language and basic knowledge. Improve your vocabulary (both spellings and meanings), then you strat afresh. I am damn sure that you will succeed on par with the other fast learners. You will no more be in the category of slow-learners.!!!Thanking you
